An eight-year-old child lost his life after the roof of a private school collapsed during an unauthorized summer camp in Lahore’s Baghbanpura area. The tragic incident has once again raised serious concerns about the safety of educational buildings and the operation of illegal summer camps across Punjab.
According to Rescue 1122, the roof collapsed while renovation work was underway at the school. Several children and workers were inside the building when the structure gave way, triggering panic among those present.

Rescue teams, police, and emergency officials quickly reached the scene and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. Abu Bakar, who suffered critical injuries, later passed away despite medical treatment. Four other people, including construction workers, were also injured, while the remaining children were safely rescued.
The injured were identified as Khizar (35), Shakeel (38), Abdul Latif (32), and Nazeer (42). Authorities said all injured individuals received immediate medical assistance.
The incident has drawn the attention of Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, who ordered an inquiry after reports revealed that the private school was conducting an unauthorized summer camp despite the provincial government’s ban on such activities. The District Education Authority has been directed to submit a detailed report.
The tragedy comes at a time when summer camps in schools across Punjab have already been prohibited, making the circumstances surrounding the camp a key focus of the ongoing investigation. Officials are examining whether negligence during renovation work contributed to the collapse and whether safety protocols were ignored.
The accident has also renewed public concern following another fatal incident in Lahore’s Kahna area, where a roof collapse at a tuition center claimed the lives of several children. That tragedy prompted education authorities to tighten inspections of private schools, coaching centers, and tuition academies throughout the city.

Following recent incidents, the Lahore Education Authority has intensified safety checks and ordered surveys of private educational institutions to assess building conditions, student safety measures, and legal registration status. Inspection teams have also been formed to identify unsafe and unregistered facilities.
Authorities say strict action will be taken against anyone found violating education and building safety regulations. The investigation into the Baghbanpura school roof collapse is ongoing, and officials are expected to determine responsibility after completing technical and administrative inquiries.
