The Punjab Medical Faculty (PMF) is preparing to introduce a significant change in its examination system, with annual examinations expected to move toward an MCQ-based format.
Under the new arrangement, candidates will answer questions in a multiple-choice format, while answer sheets are expected to be processed through Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) technology. The change is aimed at making examination checking more systematic and reducing delays in result preparation.
The PMF is responsible for conducting examinations for various Allied Health Sciences categories in Punjab. Its official website currently provides examination-related services, including schemes of studies, previous results, paper rechecking information and examination schedules.
The introduction of OMR-based checking could reduce the possibility of manual checking errors. Since responses are read electronically, the process can help standardise evaluation and potentially allow examination results to be prepared more efficiently.

For students, however, the new format will require greater attention while attempting the paper. Candidates will need to mark the correct option carefully on the OMR sheet, as unclear or incorrectly marked responses may not be recognised by the scanning system.
The move is also in line with the increasing use of computer-assisted examination systems in Pakistan. OMR technology is already used in several academic and professional testing environments, where objective questions are checked electronically.
PMF students should also keep checking the official Punjab Medical Faculty website for the final paper pattern, examination instructions, syllabus details and any updated notifications before appearing in the examination.
The faculty has also made several examination resources available online, including sample papers and paper-pattern information for students.
If implemented as planned, the new examination format could make PMF’s annual examination process faster, more organised and easier to standardise. Students should therefore start becoming familiar with MCQs and OMR-based answering techniques instead of relying only on traditional written-paper preparation.
