The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary & Secondary Education Department has directed all educational boards in the province to introduce the Show of Paper facility, giving students an opportunity to review their examination answer scripts.
Under the new instructions, students who want to see their exam answer sheets will be able to apply to their respective board. The education boards have been directed to issue formal notifications and provide a procedure for receiving applications.
The department has also instructed the boards to entertain every student who applies for the facility. This means eligible candidates should not be denied access after submitting an application according to the prescribed procedure.

The decision is expected to improve transparency in the examination system and give students a clearer understanding of how their answers were assessed. It may also help candidates identify mistakes or understand where they lost marks.
According to the department’s notification, BISE Kohat has already been offering the Show of Paper facility for around two years. Some other examination boards in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have also adopted similar practices.
The latest direction will extend the facility across the province, bringing students under a more consistent system for answer script inspection.
Students should note that viewing an answer script is different from applying for rechecking or re-evaluation. The Show of Paper facility allows a candidate to inspect the submitted examination script, while any process for correction of marks will remain subject to the relevant board’s rules.
The initiative is particularly important for students who believe there may be a discrepancy between their expected performance and the marks awarded. Access to the answer script can provide greater clarity before a student decides whether to pursue another available examination-related process.
The education department’s move is part of broader efforts to strengthen accountability, transparency and student facilitation within the examination system.
