The Punjab government has temporarily postponed its proposed English proficiency training program for nearly 35,000 teachers after concerns were raised by teachers’ organizations regarding the assessment process. The decision comes as education authorities review the program to ensure a more effective and transparent training system.
According to officials, the initiative was designed to improve the English language skills of teachers working in government schools across the province. Before the training, participants were expected to complete an online assessment through Google Forms to evaluate their current proficiency levels and identify training needs.

However, several teachers’ unions objected to the proposed evaluation method. They argued that measuring teachers’ abilities through a single online test would not provide a fair assessment of their knowledge, classroom performance, or professional experience. Union representatives also expressed concerns about internet access and technical challenges faced by educators in some areas.
Following these objections, education authorities decided to review the entire framework before moving forward. Officials stated that the goal is to develop a system that accurately evaluates teachers while ensuring equal opportunities for all participants.
One of the most significant changes announced by the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Authority (PCTA) is the shift from district-level training centers to tehsil-level training facilities. This adjustment is expected to make the program more accessible, reduce travel difficulties, and encourage greater participation from teachers across Punjab.
