Punjab has announced a major boost for the education sector by allocating Rs. 750.1 billion in its latest provincial budget, signaling a strong commitment to improving educational facilities, student support programs, and digital learning opportunities across the province.
The allocation forms a significant part of Punjab’s overall Rs. 5.9 trillion budget, with the government focusing on expanding access to quality education and creating better learning environments for students. Officials say the increased spending will support schools, colleges, universities, and various student welfare initiatives.
One of the biggest highlights of the education package is the Honhaar Scholarship Program, which has received Rs. 22 billion. The initiative aims to help talented students continue their education without financial barriers. Thousands of deserving students are expected to benefit from scholarships covering tuition and academic expenses.

The government has also allocated Rs. 15.69 billion for the Laptop Program, designed to promote digital learning and improve students’ access to modern educational resources. The scheme is expected to provide laptops to high-performing students across Punjab.
To strengthen science and technology education, Rs. 33 billion has been earmarked for the establishment and expansion of STEAM Labs. These facilities will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, helping students develop practical and innovative skills needed in the modern economy.
Another major allocation includes Rs. 55 billion for the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF). The funding will support educational programs for students studying in low-income communities and help improve access to quality education in underserved areas.
The budget also prioritizes digital infrastructure in higher education institutions. A total of Rs. 6.9 billion has been allocated for IT labs in colleges, enabling students to gain hands-on experience with technology and computer-based learning.
In addition, the government has set aside Rs. 7.8 billion for the construction of new colleges, campuses, and sub-campuses. These projects aim to expand educational opportunities in districts where access to higher education remains limited.
Education experts view the increased funding as a positive step toward improving literacy rates, enhancing technical skills, and preparing students for future employment opportunities. The government believes these investments will contribute to long-term economic growth by building a more educated and skilled workforce.
