Punjab’s education boards have introduced a major revision in the CCTV camera fee for Intermediate (Inter) annual examinations 2026, triggering strong reactions from students and parents across the province.
According to the new notification, the CCTV charge has been increased from Rs30 to Rs1,030 per student and has now been included in the overall exam entry fee. The sudden rise has surprised many families who were expecting only minor adjustments in examination charges.
Earlier, during the Matric annual examinations, students were charged just Rs30 for CCTV-related expenses. The sharp jump at the Inter level has raised questions about transparency and the actual cost of surveillance arrangements at examination centres.

Parents say the additional burden comes at a time when households are already struggling with rising inflation, higher school fees, and increasing costs of books and transport. Many fear that such charges will further limit access to education for students from low-income backgrounds.
Several parents and education activists have argued that ensuring security at exam centres is the responsibility of the education boards and institutions, not students. They believe funding for CCTV systems should come from official budgets rather than individual candidates.
Parents have urged the Punjab government and concerned boards to immediately review the decision and reduce the CCTV fee, warning that continued increases in examination costs could discourage deserving students from continuing their education.
