KP Government Relaunches Ehsaas Scholarship Program for Deserving Students

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government has announced the revival of the Ehsaas Scholarship Program, aiming to provide financial assistance to deserving students and improve access to higher education across the province. The initiative will be funded through provincial resources, ensuring that talented students from low-income families can continue their education without financial barriers.

Speaking at the University of Peshawar’s convocation, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector. He said the scholarship program reflects the provincial government’s vision of increasing educational opportunities and helping students achieve academic success regardless of their financial background.

The chief minister highlighted that the government inherited serious financial challenges in the higher education sector. He stated that significant reforms have already been introduced to stabilize the financial position of public universities and ensure they can continue delivering quality education.

According to the provincial government, pension liabilities accumulated between 2017 and June 2026 have been fully cleared. In addition, the combined financial deficit of public universities has been reduced from nearly Rs. 9 billion to approximately Rs. 4.5 billion, easing pressure on educational institutions.

To further strengthen the sector, the government has increased financial support for universities. The allocation has been raised from Rs. 10 billion in the previous fiscal year to Rs. 12 billion in the current budget. Officials believe the additional funding will improve teaching standards, research activities, digital learning facilities, laboratories, and campus infrastructure.

The revived Ehsaas Scholarship Program is expected to benefit thousands of students enrolled in public universities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. While the government has not yet released details regarding the eligibility criteria, online registration process, or application schedule, officials have indicated that further guidelines will be announced after the program’s formal rollout.

Education experts have welcomed the decision, saying that scholarships play an important role in increasing university enrollment, reducing dropout rates, and encouraging students from underprivileged backgrounds to pursue higher education.

With renewed financial support for universities and the return of the Ehsaas Scholarship Program, the KP government aims to create a stronger higher education system while providing deserving students with greater opportunities to complete their academic journey.
